Optimal Health

Answers to 4 questions you need to know to achieve optimum health (and lose weight).

1. Why should I care if my body is too acidic?

Over acidification of the body is the greatest contributor to illness.
Simply stated, chronic over acidity will interrupt all cellular activities and functions ? it interferes with life itself.  When the pH of your body becomes too acidic, you may experience low energy, fatigue, excess weight, poor digestion, aches and pains, and even life threatening disorders such as cancer.

Acidification leads to the build up of toxins, as well as the growth of dangerous microforms like yeasts (Candida), fungi, and harmful bacteria.
Your body regulates its pH just like it regulates its temperature. In doing so, it will even create stress on other tissues or body systems if it must.  Since your blood MUST maintain a very narrow pH range of 7.365 To 7.40, your body will do all sorts of things in order to deal with excess acidity.
For example

·        It will flush excess acids into fat cells (which is why you can't seem to lose those extra pounds...the fat is protecting internal organs from the acids).

·        Or, perhaps, it will leach calcium (an alkaline mineral) from your bones in order to neutralize acids, eventually leading to osteoporosis.

·        It will also flushing acids into tissues (as is the case with gout).

2. How do I know if my body is acidic?

Here, at Healthy Alternatives, you can take a FREE pH test.

pH is a measure of acidity and alkalinity. There is a strong correlation between the pH of the body's internal environment and that of the urine and saliva: urine and saliva become acidic when the body?s internal environment becomes acidic.   You can test the pH of these fluids by using pH paper.

If you intend to come by for a pH test, be sure to avoid eating or drinking anything other than water for at least 2 hours.  Also, we stock pH strips for anyone wanting to monitor their pH or the pH of their family while at home.

3. How does the body become too acidic?

The body becomes overly acidic primarily as a result of three things:

Ingesting acids.

Eating too many acidifying foods creates an acid ash in the body. These acids can overload your body's ability to neutralize them.

Creation of acids.

An acidic environment is a breeding ground for toxic microforms. Since these organisms are living, they steal your nutrients, and create resulting acidic toxins.

Improper elimination of acids.

The body uses many systems in order to buffer acids including breath, mineral reserves, and fat. When the body's buffering systems become compromised, excess acids build up.

4. How do I make my body more alkaline?

In order to realize proper pH balance, you must deal with every contributing factor to acidity.

·        Foods... contain different levels of acid or alkaline content in their own right. But what determines the pH condition in the body is the whether the food is acid or alkaline forming after being digested.  It is the levels of inorganic matter in food (sulphur, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, magnesium and calcium) that determines its impact on the acidity or alkalinity of our body fluids.  Aim for 70-80% of your diet to be alkalizing foods, such as green veggies. Ask us for a chart showing what foods are alkaline and acid.

·        Supplementing your diet with alkalizing nutritional supplements can speed-up the process of balancing your pH.

When it comes to balancing your pH, your body needs a perfect combination of nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, enzymes, fats, fiber, antioxidants, etc.

Green Foods supply the necessary minerals, chlorophyll, enzymes, and fiber to maintain your pH.

There are also products to help cleanse and detoxify your entire body... colon, liver, lymph, kidneys, etc.

·        Cleansing & Detoxification

In order to effectively detoxify properly, you must activate your lymph system. Your lymph system is responsible for removing the waste products from your cells ? it is the sewage system of the body.

At Healthy Alternatives we have a Whole Body Vibration machine which cleans the lymph system (among other things).

Sweating... Many toxins, accumulated in the system as a result of metabolic wastes and sluggish elimination, are thrown out of the body with perspiration.  It is recommended that we take 30 minutes (especially after a workout), and sit in a sauna.  At

in the

Garden City Shopping Centre

there is an infared sauna available for this purpose

·        Water

Reports from studies suggest that structured or clustered water can help the body resist disease and slow aging by increasing cellular hydration, replacing essential minerals, and boosting pH. Proper hydration is THE MOST CRUCIAL factor in establishing and maintaining proper pH!

The great news is that when you get your pH in balance, you have really set the stage for optimal health and vibrant energy.
